Youth Theatre Camp 2011
Clive, Alberta
The camp will run this summer from July 25th to August 7th.
“In early youth, as we contemplate our coming life, we are like children in a theatre before the curtain is raised, sitting there in high spirits and eagerly waiting for the play to begin.”
The Cow Patti Theatre Company has arrived back home! To start things off in Alberta pastures, we are thrilled to announce our first production: “CAMP COW PATTI PRESENTS CAMILLA THE TRIPLE THREAT COW” We are rounding up 20 calves between the ages of 8 and 16 to be a part of our professional herd of young actors. The camp will be an intense two weeks where the actors will journey through the process of a rehearsing a full length comedy play with music. AnnaMarie Lea, founder and Head Cow of the Cow Patti Theatre Company has been a professional actor and director for 26 years and has been working with the youth throughout Northern, Western and Eastern Canada for the past 17 years. She has enjoyed using the tool of theatre to empower and delight countless children of many different backgrounds and cultures. Being directed and attending workshops with professionals in the field will enable the young actors to learn many acting skills and theatre techniques along the way which will serve them well not only as actors but as young adults working toward self-assurance, group responsibility, commitment and affability. What makes Cow Patti camps unique is that when I direct and work with these young actors I have the same expectations of them as I do with our casts and crews of our regular professional season shows. This gives our young actors the opportunity to experience and enjoy their moment in “professional theatre”.
The show we have selected this year is a play within a play-both joyful, with plenty of laughs and life lessons all told through the eyes of the actors in “Camp Cow Patti” and the farm animal friends of Camilla the Triple Threat Cow.
A Synopsis of the Play:
“Camp Cow Patti” is in their first preview of their production of: “Camilla the Triple Threat Cow.” At the top of the show they realize that the sets, costumes and props which were supposed to have arrived in Clive Alberta are actually on route to Chicken Fling, Texas!! On top of that, the lead, Kate, the actor playing the role of Camilla receives a phone call from Toronto about her pending professional theatre career and ironically so does her character Camilla the Triple Threat Cow. - Enter in some fun characters to add to the hilarity and confusion at hand: Hiram J. Potter with Spielberg Agencies, Dex the Texter who wants to save the day, a flustered stage manager, a trip to New York City, a remix “Thank God I’m a Country Cow,” “If You Liked It Then You Should Have Put a Bell on It!” and “All the Single Heifers …All the Single Heifers…” Throw in a farm yard full of distraught animals, a green room full of worried actors and a wheelbarrow full of cow patti’s and we have a bumper crop to entertain our audiences of all ages with a warm hearted comedy show!
The camp will be on a first come first serve basis but all camp applicants will go through an audition process in May to determine their levels of talent and commitment to the project.
